I have to make a confession, although this blog talks about how much I love New Zealand and how brilliant life is here, sometimes I get super homesick! At times, all I want do do is go and cuddle up on my mums couch with a cup of tea. But of course, I can’t do this, because I am on the other side of the world. So, last weekend I found a nice alternative to get a reminder of home in the form of a very lovely (but also very decadent) high tea in Wellington at The Lobby Lounge in the Intercontinental Hotel.

There is nothing like a cup of tea, some lil cakes and high quality cucumber sandwiches to take the edge off the homesickness, right!

Pretty Cakes and Luxurious Tea

Everyone has probably heard the British stereotype of us all sitting about drinking tea and eating scones and talking about the queen and this is totally inaccurate but it was nice to slip in to character for an afternoon.

I headed to the Lobby Lounge to meet with fellow Wellington newbie Magda (of Maison Magda). And, despite our arguably different outlooks, Magda being a lovely lady of luxury, and I being more of a nature and home comforts type, this high tea provided a perfect backdrop for us both to discuss projects and do something we both loved.

Highly Recommended

The High Tea was great, these were some of the prettiest little cakes I have ever seen. They hardly looked real! My fave was a popping candy chocolate moose stick. Yeah, pretty great! They also totally nailed the sandwiches and had a vast selection of herbal teas. We couldn’t help ourselves from washing it down with a glass of sparkling wine too.

So yeah, if you are looking for an excellent high tea in Wellington, The Intercontinental comes highly recommended and The Lobby Lounge is cosy little spot you can spend a few hours on a windy or rainy day.  Shout out to the staff for being super lovely too.
