Wellington is the craft beer capital of New Zealand, and maybe of the world…so, there is no shortage of great places to drink beer in Welly. They are all pretty great so it is really really hard to pick a top 5 (for a fuller list check out the list on Wellington NZ,) but here are my personal current picks for the Top 5 best craft beer bars in Wellington:

Parrot Dog

Parrot dog or P-Dog as we call it is one of my absolute favourite places to grab beers in Welly. The bar is huge but cosy and has a great selection of beers and food available. Out in Lyall Bay, it can be a bit of a trek depending on where you live in the city but it is so worth it. They often hold DJ nights and other events too. Personally, I cant get enough of the Hazy IPA and I recommend trying one of their delicious burgers too, they honestly taste like a better Mcdonalds burger. (See my Top 5 Burgers in Wellington blog post here)

Garage Project

Garage Project is one of the OG Craft Breweries in Wellington and arguably the most famous. Their beers are everywhere but their craft beer tap bar in Aro Valley is so worth a visit. It’s small and cute but there are so many taps. Garage Project is known for experimental brews so there is always something new and interesting to try.

Fortune Favours

I love Fortune Favours!. As well as their amazing Leeds Street Brewery they have a bar at the airport and a cold glass of Fortune Favours beer always reminds me of heading off on holiday. The beer is really delicious, with the staple Wellingtonian IPA being a favourite. The Leeds Street bar has a really nice patio in such a prime location which is great on a summer day in town. Also for those non-drinkers, they have kombucha on tap and it’s always nice for the non-beer drinkers to be catered for too!

Goldings Free Dive

Looking for a craft beer bar with a bit of a range then Goldings is the one. It’s a small spot, so best for a small gathering, but it’s uber chill and atmospheric and the perfect beer spot to catch up with a friend. They also serve the amazing Pizzas from Pizza Pomodoro next door.

Leeds Street

Rogue and Vagabond

Rogue and Vagabond is such a fun Wellington beer bar; they serve craft beer from all over New Zealand accompanied by a very fun vibe. You can usually catch live music, DJs, and a lively atmosphere. Also can’t beat lounging out on the grass outside when it’s a sunny day out there.
