There is nothing better than a Friday night cocktail or two whether it is with the gals, on a date or having a pre-party bev. Luckily Wellington has lots of amazing cocktail bars that will offer a huge array of amazing flavours and quite remarkable bar tendering.

It’s a great time to be supporting Wellington hospo – Here are my Top 5 for where to get the best cocktails in wellington (out of those that I have tried so far, that is) Any recommendations? Let me know!

Night Flower

Night Flower is fairly new in Wellington, but it has made a name for itself. Located above 1154 on the corner of Cuba and Ghuznee, you’ll have to know where you are going to find the entrance but its worth it. The vibe is Prohibition and vintage and they nail it. The cocktails are something magic too. Just tell the bar tenders your flavours and they will whip up the most on point drink you could ask for. Romantic, dark and luxurious!

Crumpet

Crumpet is the sweetest lil cocktail bar, and with its handy Cuba-Courtney location, your unlikely to find a more convenient pit stop. Vintage tables and art on the walls and friendly service make this a Wellington must do. They have a handy wheel, which you can spin to match your flavours. They also serve food – crumpets of course! Savoury or sweet, makes this the perfect late-night spot.

Poquito

Poquito is a personal fave of mine. It has the loveliest chill vibe and is super popular with the local hospo crowd which says to me that it has something going for it. I like to prop at the bar and watch the bar tenders do their skilled work. Its nothing too out there but great cocktails that are individually tailored to what you like.

Hanging Ditch

Hanging Ditch off Leeds Street is the perfect place for a group cocktail visit. A little bigger in size than some of the other bars means you and a group of friends can book a spot. I am a personal huge fan of their Margaritas. I have also witnessed the making of a bacon cocktail – interesting!

The Library

The Library is a Wellington institution and not to be missed on any Welly cocktail trail. Hidden away above the crepe stand on Courtney Place, you kinda need to know where it is. The ambience is dark and moody, and the cocktails are delicious. Look out for the Golddigger. They also do 2-4-1 every Wednesday – so it is a great night to hang at The Library.
